About Fair Farms
Fair Farms is Australia's industry-led social compliance program for the horticulture sector.
Developed by industry for industry, Fair Farms supports growers, pack houses, labour hire providers and other horticulture businesses to understand and meet Australian workplace requirements through practical guidance, education, resources, ongoing support and independent certification.
As Fair Farms continues to grow nationally, we're looking for an experienced HR professional who enjoys helping people navigate workplace obligations — and has a knack for making complicated things simple.
About the Role
This is not a traditional internal HR role.
Your focus will be outward — supporting Fair Farms members and businesses across Australia's horticulture industry.
Working closely with and supporting the National Program Manager, you'll provide practical HR and workplace relations guidance, help members understand and prepare for Fair Farms certification, and develop the tools, templates, resources and training that make workplace compliance easier to understand and implement.
One day you might help a grower understand an Award classification or employment requirement. The next, you could turn a recurring member question into a practical checklist, develop a short training module, contribute to a webinar or create a template that can be used by businesses across Australia.
We're looking for an HR professional who can understand the technical detail, explain it in plain English and turn it into something practical.
What You'll Do
Support Fair Farms Members
You'll be a practical source of HR and workplace relations support for Fair Farms members.
You'll:
Respond to member enquiries relating to HR and workplace obligations.
Provide practical guidance on employment documentation and good workplace practices.
Assist members to understand Modern Awards, classifications, wages, employment conditions and the National Employment Standards.
Research workplace relations questions and translate the answer into clear, practical guidance.
Help members understand the HR requirements of the Fair Farms Standards and prepare for certification audits with confidence.
Identify common or emerging member issues that may require broader guidance, resources or education.
Develop Practical HR Resources
A big part of the role is turning complex requirements into resources that businesses can actually use.
You'll:
Develop and maintain practical HR templates, policies, procedures, checklists, guides and FAQs.
Translate legislation, Modern Awards and Fair Farms requirements into clear, accessible resources.
Review and update resources as workplace laws and program requirements change.
Identify opportunities to develop new tools and resources based on member enquiries, audit trends and emerging workplace issues.
Contribute to member communications, newsletters and website content on HR and workplace relations topics.
Build Member Capability
You'll help us make workplace compliance easier to understand.
You'll:
Develop practical training and education content for Fair Farms members.
Contribute to member onboarding, workshops and webinars.
Develop and update short e-learning modules and digital learning content.
Help turn technical workplace topics into engaging education for growers, managers and supervisors.
Support continuous improvement of Fair Farms' member education and capability resources.
Support the National Program
Working closely with the National Program Manager, you'll:
Support delivery of member engagement and education initiatives.
Contribute HR and workplace relations expertise to Fair Farms projects and program activities.
Assist with the development of presentations, workshops and industry resources.
Support emerging initiatives and priorities as the Fair Farms Program continues to develop nationally.
Contribute ideas and practical solutions that improve the experience and value we provide to Fair Farms members.
About You
You're an HR professional who enjoys making complicated things simpler.
You're comfortable researching and interpreting workplace requirements, but you're equally comfortable explaining them to a small business owner who doesn't have an HR department.
You enjoy solving problems, creating useful resources and helping people build confidence.
You're approachable, curious and practical. You can move comfortably between a member phone call, an Award, a spreadsheet, a webinar and a new checklist.
You'll also be self-directed, organised and comfortable working in a small, collaborative team where priorities can change and everyone contributes.
You'll Bring
Practical experience in human resources, workplace relations or a similar role.
Sound working knowledge of Australian workplace legislation, including the Fair Work Act 2009, National Employment Standards and Modern Awards.
Confidence researching and interpreting workplace requirements and explaining them clearly to employers.
Strong written communication skills and the ability to create clear, practical guidance for a non-expert audience.
The ability to develop useful HR resources such as policies, templates, procedures, checklists or guides.
An interest in learning and capability development, including creating training or educational content.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build genuine relationships with members and small business operators.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Strong Microsoft Office skills.
A genuine interest in helping Australian businesses build fair, compliant and productive workplaces.
We'd Also Love It If You Have
Experience in agriculture, horticulture or another regulated or compliance-driven industry.
Experience facilitating workshops, webinars or workplace training.
Experience developing e-learning content or working with a learning management system such as TalentLMS.
Exposure to WHS or broader workplace compliance.
Experience working with labour hire providers.
Exposure to the PALM Scheme.
You don't need to tick every box.
If you're a strong HR practitioner who enjoys helping people, creating practical solutions and learning new things, we'd still like to hear from you.
Why Join Fair Farms?
This is an opportunity to use your HR skills differently.
Rather than supporting one internal workforce, you'll help businesses across Australian horticulture improve workplace practices and navigate employment obligations with greater confidence.
You'll join a small, collaborative national team where your ideas are valued and you'll have the opportunity to create practical resources, contribute to new initiatives and see the impact of your work.
The role is part-time (0.6 FTE) with hybrid working arrangements and flexibility around how the working week is structured.
Most importantly, your work will contribute directly to helping Australian horticulture businesses build fairer, more compliant workplaces while supporting Fair Farms to deliver meaningful value to its members and the broader industry.
